Welcome to my website!
_Allow me to introduce myself. I am known as KentLang, Kent_Lang, Kent or just Lang (before 2005). This is my very personal site where I write reviews of games and films. If you, like me; hate it when horrible companies like IGN or PC Gamer hire reviewers that utterly lie to their readers whenever a game is good - then you might like this site. Personally I am so sick and tired of people hyping games, that I took it up on myself to review them instead. But I also put some of my mods here like the AI I wrote for Baldur's Gate 2. I used to have a vastly improved bunch of Tank AI, Wizard AI and the like but they got lost in my Windows re-installation for some reason - despite having me taking great care in trying to keep them on the site. Today I don't mod all that much. I used to work a little in Oblivion until my computer broke down, so I started D&Ding instead which is only limited to my own imagination. I consider myself a designer of some description. I love figuring out how to design a good game but as I grow in age I start to see that what I would consider a good game isn't always a 'good game'. I made this website around 3 years ago, when I was 19 years old and it has underwent a lot of changes during that time. Anyways, welcome to the site!
If you have to know about me I can give you a rundown of my background: I was born in a small suburban area near Stockholm. There I lived a fairly easy life. My parents were harsh and unforgiving at that time, because they suffered very badly from stress in lack of better understanding of their position. That lead to run in with the authorities that wondered whenever they were fit enough to take care of me and later, my brother. Eventually, in order to escape the suspicious neighbors they decided to move down to a small village not too far away from Stockholm. Time went by and my mother started dealing with her stress issue by taking medicine against it and later she started dealing with her weight that she had accumulated from years suffering from unemployment as her old 'profession' disappeared from society altogether. My dad and mom got a divorce when I was 18 because of reasons I would not want to make too public. But let's backtrack a little. At the age of 17 I dropped out of my secondary school (a choice I regret to this day), but I couldn't go but I couldn't go back to school because of some bullshit age restriction for secondary schools in the country. The only useful thing I learned there were possibly some mathematics from the only decent teacher there. When I said I wanted back in secondary school they told me I were too old and assigned me to the adult's equivalence of secondary school in false hopes and lies about my prospects there. It only turned out that there were no real prospects there for me either but at least they were better than the joke that I had to suffer through when I was 18. In short: The school system sucks.
During the summer and fall of 2012 I lost over 40 kilograms of weight! I was working as an intern at ÖoB in Norrtälje. The experience was something almost otherworldly. I was miserable and depressed because I felt under appreciated where I worked. I felt as if I should've had more responsibility and even been offered a proper job which I never got.
My rating system
Often I feel it necessary to explain my unorthodox rating system. The only reviews I've ever cared about is the ones at Swedish PCGamer which used a percentage between 0% and 100% where a 0% couldn't even be classified as a game and 100% would be the ultimate game.
The problem with such a rating system is that average games would be placed at 70 to 85 percent while decent and good games would be placed around 85 - 95 and 95 - 98 respectively. After have been reading their reviews for over 4 years or so I concluded that such a rating system was a poorly designed one since the reviewer had too many ratings to choose from which most was 70 to 98 which is 28 ratings. Additionally the reviewer could make one game at the same league as another game just slightly more recommended which is bullshit and means that the reviewer cannot state his opinion right. Therefore I started thinking of a rating system myself that was simple, elegant and offered enough detail to describe easily how good a game was. And I came up with that the best rating system would be a 6 rating system.
Of the rating system I had:
1. Barely playable game
Because of the design of the game few players can hope to get into it. It might become a cult-classic but I don't take such things into account.
2. Boring game
It's below average and not worth buying which is because of the game lacking many features that would make it interesting or exciting but also bugs and gameplay decisions that hamper the joy of playing the game.
3. Average game
Looks, feels and works just like any other game on the market. Will not keep you entertained for a long time but offers enough entertainment value that you might feel satisfied with the game depending on your taste. I also feel compelled to stress the importance of this rating as other nerds tend to rage: IT DIDN'T SUCK! If it's less than 3 it sucks for me. Call me a gaming snob if you will but if a game cannot go over this rating then it's seriously something wrong with the companies that develop them.
4. Good game
A good game that offers nice replayability or memories for the gamer that have played it. Worth purchasing if you like the genre.
5. Excellent game
Games that bring new, innovative features to the table or are incredibly replayable, these games are definitely worth a purchase if only because of it's contributions to the gaming market. If you don't like the genre then you might not like it.
6. Masterpeice
This is not a rating for perfect games but for games that offers the best possible music, gameplay, replayability, ect. for the genre it represents. The only game I think deserves to rank this high for the moment is Deus Ex because... well you'll have to read my review for that. Also, you should buy games that have this ranking if only to know what I consider the best games to be.
